Natural Dye Day with the Southeast New Hampshire Spinning Guild

Learn about dying wool with natural plant dyes
Spinners, knitters, and fiber arts enthusiasts of all kinds are invited to a day of dying wool with natural plant-based dyes!
DATE: Saturday, September 14, 2024
TIME : 10 am – 4 pm, rain or shine!
- Bring your wheel or spindle and fiber! We’ll have open spin all day!
- Bring a lunch and beverage!
- There were be two dye sessions: Learn about each below!
- Tours of the historic Wentworth House will also be available.
DYE TIME #1: Materials provided (limited space)
TIME: 10:00 am
There will be only twenty spots available on a first come first served basis. You will be receiving five one ounce skeins, mordanted, wetted and ready to be dyed. Instruction will be given and you will be responsible for your skeins through the process. Wear clothing you don’t mind getting dye on and nitrile gloves if you don’t want pink hands! Material fee of $5
The four dye pots that will be featured are:
- Avocado
- Cochineal
- Dyers Amaranth (mother nature dependent)
- Red Seneca Corn Husks (mother nature dependent)
DYE TIME #2: Bring your own fiber!
TIME: 12:30 pm
Bring your wetted (soaked at least 30 minutes) in one ounce skeins. There will be an open pot of avocado, and other dye pots may be available as well, depending on mother nature! Wear clothing you don’t mind getting dye on and nitrile gloves if you don’t want pink hands!
