About La Madeleine
Madeleine St. Amant grew up in the villages of rural Quebec listening to her mom sing French ballads. She is a remarkable singer, and brings a refreshingly unaffected passion and warmth to every song. Her husband, Chip Harding, has had a long career as a band leader, singer/songwriter, and recording artist. Many of us also know him from his time as one of the best music teachers and band leaders at Berwick Academy!
La Madeleine’s accordion player, Carl Pehrsson, plays frequently at The Press Room in Portsmouth and at private events as a solo jazz pianist. He also plays with groups like The Beach Cowboys, The Busters, Crosswinds Jazz Quintet, Jen Thayer and Chronic Jazz Syndrome. Emily Barbour, La Madeleine’s fiddle player, is a decorated violinist who has played festivals all over the country. This young musician graduated from college just two years ago, but she had been performing with La Madeleine since she was only 15!
La Madeleine performs the music of Edith Piaf, Jacques Brel, Georges Moustaki, Gilles Vigneault and a variety of other French and French Canadian artists, along with a mix of accordion and fiddle-driven Celtic tunes. The incomparable Madeleine St. Amant sings with an unaffected warmth and passion that get right to the heart of these timeless songs.
